As an artist, you are the seeker of creativity, you know that your art practise adds passion, excitement, wonderment and yes, sometimes frustration and discouragement to your life.
In a world that makes so many demands on our daily lives, it can be challenging to carve out those blocks of time to make the art that makes us whole.
Have you considered a dedicated and focused time that would provide an opportunity to discover innovative and fresh new pathways into your art? Perhaps there’s an idea that keeps calling to you or a variation of your current work that you are wanting to explore? Maybe its something that’s so different and “not you” that you’re shying away?
Then an art residency is the best, next step! An art residency encourages and enables artists to explore new materials, connect with new people, experience life in a new practise and integrate that experience into their art.
Art residencies can be a big leap and maybe you are not quite ready to apply for a residency away from home, but you want to have some of that experience. Or you are looking for a push forward into your art - then - the Artists Deep Dive may be for you.
How will Artists Deep Dive work?
The programme is upcoming and it will be open for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Artists Deep Dive is web based – but so much more than that! On a private webpage each Sunday there will be a new Deep Dive Lesson open for you. Open the web page with your username and password and you will find:
A video guide to:
- steps to create a plan for your online residency
- asking those important questions about your work
- helping to refine your vision - helpful worksheets
- build a structure into your month-long time - making priorities - creating time blocks
- journaling to help your path, suggestions for the big “why” …like Morning Pages
- how to build a mind map for exploding the vision
- building an artist statement for your residency
- organize your supplies – I’m a big fan of limitations!
- your studio – friend or foe?
A critical part of a residency is the community of like minded artists and so there will be:
- weekly presentations via Zoom with guests (will be recorded and posted with link)
- an informal/optional meet-up to chat with other “residents” – also via Zoom with Breakout Rooms
- a private Facebook Group to share your work, tips, resources and your art!
Stay tuned for more information - a new session begins in January 2025! Lots more content and resources!
The Artists Deep Dive is perfect if you:
- want time for focus with guided tips and ideas
- explore that idea that’s been calling to you
- have just touched the surface of what is possible for that idea….
- want to engage with a community of other artists
- build a structure that you can repeat again on your own
- can commit to a month-long focus
- say YES to those ideas that touch your creative spirit
FAQ
How much time will I have to commit to the Artists Deep Dive each week?
We would proably all love to spend as much time as we possibly could in our art practise - but realistically eating, sleeping and such are important too! Especially self - care, this isnt' meant to burn you out! I find 3 hours per day, actively making art, is about the most I can handle. You might feel differently and that's good too! Remember that there's a bit (really just a bit) of writing and journaling involved and you plan the schedule that works for you. So....I'd say 10-12 hours a week.
How long will I have access to the webpages?
You will have access to the Artists Deep Dive for as long as you need, although the content may change as I continue to update the pages. And I recommend that you download and print off the worksheets. And take more residencies!
What kind of mediums are welcome?
All artists are welcome, no matter what their medium! My focus is textile based but I have also worked in paper, book making, acrylics and mixed media.
Will you be teaching art techniques?
No, I won’t be teaching techniques, but artists are often willing to share their expertise, so we will be helping each other, and questions will welcome on the Facebook group. And if we can’t help, we can help you find the answers…
I am shy or uncomfortable about sharing my work, will I have to do that?
Not at all! We encourage you to share but it is never required! We will be supportive and reassuring of each other, but we’d never ask more that you are willing to give.
