Notations – Explorations in Mark Making

This series is an exploration of mark making with stitch and a very limited or constrained palette. The black, white and "sometimes red" affords an opportunity to reach further into the marks without distraction of too much colour (although some might questions if it's possible to have too much colour!) the marks are part of movement and flow that I find so much part of the physicality of creation.

Look closely at the shapes and layers of collage, creating both open and dense areas that provide the interest of value and texture. Click on each image for a larger view.

Each piece measures 12 " x 12" on a wrapped canvas panel. The collage is adhered to pure wool felt to give a rich, subtle framing and then attached to the painted canvas. All panel edges are painted black which continues the continuity of the work. Pieces are wired on the back, ready for hanging and are signed and dated.
